LXQt feedback & collection thread

Postby madeye » May 17th, '14, 19:03

edit doktor5000: thread with test results has been split of from LXQT poll thread: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=7510

I just installed it now. It does feel a little faster. However I need to run some more tests to have a clear picture of it.

One thing that I did notice is that it's not using kwin as wm. That's a problem for me,as I'm using keyboard shortcuts for managing my windows, and the best way I've found is to use razorqt with kwin.

Is there somewhere I can set lxqt to use kwin? I can't seem to find a "control panel" anywhere.
Please note I have both razorqt and lxqt installed right now.

Could be that we're missing something from http://wiki.lxde.org/en/Build_LXDE-Qt_F ... components
AFAIR, razor-qt asked on first start which WM it should use. According to the comments has to be possible: http://blog.lxde.org/?p=1107&cpage=1#comment-9106

LXQT testrun and issues

Postby madeye » May 18th, '14, 01:01

I thought it better not to pollute the poll anymore than necessary, so I moved this to a new thread. I quoted the messages prior to this so the history would be easier to find for anyone running across this thread.

It seems it's only in the menu it is missing. Running lxqt-config from a terminal makes it possible to change the settings.
Or it can be changed directly in ~/.config/lxqt/session.conf, by adding
Code: Select all
window_manager=kwin

But I am missing the possibility to logout while using lxqt. Can someone confirm this?
(no problem while using razorqt)

As lxqt is not yet in Cauldron this would be the wrong place to ask.

I wasn't really sure where else to put it, as this is a "testing" issue. But please feel free to move it to a more proper location.

Postby dglent » May 18th, '14, 10:21

I have cauldron installed, i cannot install the lxqt from there:
[root@localhost ~]# urpmi task-lxqt
A requested package cannot be installed:
lxqt-panel-0.7.0-1.x86_64 (due to unsatisfied libicuuc.so.52()(64bit))
Continue installation anyway? (Y/n)

i have these packages installed:
icu-53.1-4.mga5
icu53-data-53.1-4.mga5
icu-debuginfo-53.1-4.mga5
lib64icu53-53.1-4.mga5
lib64icu-devel-53.1-4.mga5

I rebuilt the rpm here in a cauldron system:
http://www.mageia-gr.org/rpm/5/x86_64/
http://www.mageia-gr.org/rpm/5/noarch/

My very first comments:
1/ i have kwin, i don't have icons in the categories of the menu (in the panel), maybe is normal or a fault ...
2/ the lxqt fonts configuration makes another setting in ~/.config/fontconfig.fonts.conf, so it doesn't make in account the settings from KDE, and it makes doubles entries ...
3/ The task-lxqt rpm that i have uploaded here: http://www.mageia-gr.org/rpm/5/noarch/ didn't take in account some requires and i installed them manualy (pcmanfm-qt, liblxqt liblxqt-data libqtxdg and libqtxdg-data) i will take a look.

and it would be better if the packages are in svn so we can work all together

Re: Question and Poll

Nobody mentioned packages are available for Cauldron.
doktor5000 wrote:FWIW, I've rebuilt all of the lxqt packages for Mageia 4, and added lxqt-panel and a task-lxqt.

@dglent: Can you simply wait until I've imported the packages in the next few days, to avoid duplication of work?

Best leave it here until I've imported the packages this week.

Logout was working fine for me. What login manager do you use?

I have tried with kdm and lightdm. I tried to use sddm as well, but it would not allow me to login at all. (that's a seperate issue I will address later in a seperate thread)

In the leave menu I have all the options: hibernate, suspend, reboot and shutdown. But the logout option is missing altogether.
For now I've gone back to razorqt, as everything is working there.

For now the packages are making it slowly through the buildsystem, as quite some subtleties have to be taken care of.
Will ping here again once task-lxqt has made it through so a usable LXQt desktop can be installed under cauldron,

task-lxqt should be available from your favorite cauldron mirror soon. Current state of packages and which are missing is listed here: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/User:Doktor5 ... aging_TODO

If there are any packaging issues, please put all the urpmi output in code tags and post here.
If there are other problem with lxqt, best try to investigate and fix yourself, as 0.7.0 is considered a beta release.
Also upstream is quite responsive, either via GitHub or Google Groups https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/razor-qt

All packages for lxqt should be available now. I've added lximage-qt, lxqt-appswitcher, lxmenu-data so that menu structure should be good now, and additionally there's obconf-qt and compton-conf. task-lxqt-0.7.0-3.mga5 should pull all those.

Also the DM session file has been moved to standard location /etc/X11/wmsession.d/

Why build config tool to compton composite manager without building compton to mageia ?.
A new compton-conf tool, for Compton users (released separately)

LXQT testrun

Postby paiiou » Jul 21st, '14, 09:49

Hello,
I think that my question has rather its place here than in bugzilla.
I would want to have a carillon in the starting up.
With Xfce, I had created a file /etc/xdg/autostart/xfce4-login-sound, containing the line:
Exec=/usr/bin/canberra-gtk-play --id="login-sound" --description="Xfce Login"

I did not find which program to use with lxqt, knowing that I would not want to install canberra-gtk.
If you have an idea

Why not use paplay instead?

Also I've not looked yet, but doesn't LXQT also offer the functionality to define startup sound?

Yes, it works well. Thank you
In the same order of idea, if we do not want to use pulseaudio, there is ogg123 of the package vorbis-tools

I have still looked, but I found nothing

I have another question :
With Xfce, the session isrecorded at the time of leaving.
All the applications are restored during a new session.

Is it possible with LXQt?
I did not find in the configuration of LXQt

How did you install lxqt? Do you have lxqt-session installed? That includes the session manager, but to be honest, I've not used it yet.

I make the installation with urpmi --nosuggest task-lxq.
Lxqt-session is a part of implicit requires.
I have well a configuration of the sessions, but nothing concerns the saving of the sessions (or then my glasses are to be changed).

Reposting here:

So far I've added a custom Mageia theme as the default theme, and also changed the default panel. Although due to some upstream bugs, the default configuration from /etc is partly ignored. I've found a workaround for the default panel and wallpaper issue: copying the configs from /etc to the users home folder workarounds that. But this cannot be added to the package, as rpm is not allowed access to users home folders.

You can try yourself by wiping all configs of the current user, and copying over the configs from /etc as normal user:

Code: Select all
rm -rf .config/ .cache/ .local/; mkdir -p .config/pcmanfm-qt/lxqt/; mkdir -p .config/lxqt; cp /etc/pcmanfm-qt/lxqt/settings.conf .config/pcmanfm-qt/lxqt/; cp /etc/lxqt/panel.conf .config/lxqt/

LXQT should also be available on next Mageia 5 installation media and selectable in installer in place of razorqt.

Now we're discussing how to ensure smooth upgrade from razorqt and LXDE, and how to drop razorqt and LXDE.
