Cauldron Issues

Hello,
I was a happy Cauldron user for a while, until my distro stopped receiving updates. Here's what I did:
Followed the instructions on the wiki https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Cauldron
urpmi.removemedia -a
and then urpmi.addmedia --distrib --mirrorlist 'http://mirrors.mageia.org/api/mageia.cauldron.i586.list'
So I tried doing this again, and still no new updates. I am stuck on GNOME 3.12...
Any ideas?

How do you install updates? In cauldron there are no updates media, so if you only use the update applet, you'll never receive any updates by default.
What does
Code: Select all
urpmi --auto-update
say when run as root in a terminal?

doctor5000: It says:
Code: Select all

alf: The latest GNOME is 3.13.1 and Cauldron has been delivering unstable development GNOME releases during the last release cycle

If you want to run cauldron, you should be able to fix such minor breakage yourself. Check https://ml.mageia.org/wwsympa-wrapper.f ... 00052.html

doktor: If I knew what the issue was I'd fix it easily. Thanks anyway. It is now working again :)

You want to read https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Cauldron thoroughly. Please mark the thread accordingly by editing the topic of the first post and prefix it by [SOLVED], thanks

That would be incorrect.

In cauldron and perhaps stable versions the applet checks all enabled media for newer versions of installed programs.

Yes it's incorrect in cauldron it checks from release medias updates.

Maybe that has been added recently, it used to only check for updates media, not on release. Good to know, thanks for the hint :)

IIRC it was added in Mandriva for cooker before the fork and so has existed for cauldron since Mageia began. :)

On stable Mageia releases it still checks only repo's tagged as update sources.

That maybe the case but it doesn't matter as after a release the release repositories never change so no updates will ever be found there.

I was having Cauldronicon's issue. I decided my version of Cauldron was thoroughly stuffed and started again. Now I can't download Cauldron's hdlist file for the Release repo. urpmi tried two mirrors, and failed. I tried using wget. That failed as well. Code 8. Trying to install from the boot.iso was no better. It didn't bring up the list of mirrors, and when I typed in the mirror manually and got the path reading as it should, it still couldn't find the squashfs file. That has been the case for a while.

This is because hdlist are updated very often and you are try to add repos when mirror is synced, you should read this page first and then decide you want to use Cauldron.

I have had Cauldron as a second distro for a while. Australia is the furthest outpost for updates. That issue was fixed this morning. Without the synthesis file, I couldn't update perl-URPM with urpmi. Installing it with rpm resulted in dependency hell. My Official already has the updated perl-URPM, so I did an up-to-date installation on my Cauldron partitions, and am about to switch to the Cauldron mirrors as per the wiki. Fingers crossed.
