Help testing future backports

Postby stormi » Jul 8th, '11, 14:36

Hi !

I hope we will be ready soon to provide backports. We can already submit backports to the backports_testing media. Those packages can be found in rpmdrake, in the "backports" section. What differentiates them from backports is the description of the package as shown in rpmdrake, that begins with "This is an update candidate. It can break your system.", or such, message meant to discourage non-confident users to install them. But for YOU, who are courageous testers, those packages can be interesting, and we need your feedback.

By the way, using Mageia App Db, you can see all backports candidates :
only GUI applications : http://88.191.121.20/madb/mageia/index. ... ing/page/1
all backports candidates : http://88.191.121.20/madb/mageia/index. ... e/0/page/1

Another way to see them, with alphabetical sort :
only GUI applications : http://88.191.121.20/madb/mageia/index. ... 2/source/0
all packages : http://88.191.121.20/madb/mageia/index. ... 2/source/0

Or by group :
only GUI applications : http://88.191.121.20/madb/mageia/index. ... 2/source/0
all packages : http://88.191.121.20/madb/mageia/index. ... 2/source/0

Please report any bug concerning those, using http://bugs.mageia.org

To access backports in rpmdrake, select Backports from the first drop-down filter list. You can set the View (from the top menu) to see either all backports packages listed alphabetically or by package group.

You can then select backport packages to install and install them without enabling any backports repo.

As stormi warned, both backports_testing and, when they become available, final backports packages are displayed. To distinguish between them either examine the package Details or select "All Packages, by medium repository" from the View menu.

Backports are still not available, *but* packages that were present in Mandriva 2010.2 and absent from Mageia 1 can be pushed to updates. I pushed missing games but need them to be tested both in i586 and x86_64 so that the updates can be validated.

Here is the full list of official updates candidates, among them you'll recognize the games easily I think. The other updates need testing too : https://bugs.mageia.org/buglist.cgi?cmd ... arer_id=22 (needs you to login to bugzilla, it's the same login as this forum)

Here is the wiki page about the QA validation procedure : http://www.mageia.org/wiki/doku.php?id=qa_updates

[Edit : changed the URL to updates needing testing for a newer and more accurate search]

stormi Why is it the list of updates in the app db is so much longer than the list in bugzilla? Firefox for example is not listed in the bugzilla list of updates awaiting testing.

BTW: Good job on the app database. I was not aware of it before.

The update candidate for firefox wasn't shown in the list because it was not assigned to qa-bugs@ml.mageia.org, the QA team bugs mailing list.

I added it in CC so now it should appear. If it doesn't, go to https://bugs.mageia.org/userprefs.cgi?t ... d-searches and select "waiting for QA test" from Manuel Hiebel (do not use the one shared by Damien Lallement, it's obsolete already)

I changed the URL in my previous post so that it points to this saved search.

Well, even with Manuels search i only get 18 bugs. With mine (not sure where it's from) i get 25 bugs. Just shared it now.
Also, with Damiens list i get 23 bugs, still more than with manuels search, so maybe not that obsolete?

That's normal : the one I gave you excludes updates candidates that already have been validated so need no more testing, they need only a push to updates.

You can see them there : https://bugs.mageia.org/buglist.cgi?cmd ... arer_id=22

Note that boklm is currently pushing them so by the time you look at it it may be empty :)

Manuel's searches are the most accurate, the other was are obsolete.
