Hi there !

I am wondering about a proposed feature for the Mageia 3 cycle : setting Grub2 as the default bootloader.
Since it was inplemented, drakboot can not configure the booloader. Is it planned to correct this bug for the next cycle ?

Grub, not Grub2, is the default in both Mageia 3 and Mageia 4. Grub2 is available as an option.

I meant, is it planned to correct this bug and to have a correctly operationnal Drakboot with grub2 ?

Mageia's Grub2 maintainer (Barry Jackson) has suggested that drakboot should not be used to modify the configuration of Grub2. That is presumably one of the issues that could be discussed in the planning for Mageia 5, if someone proposes it as a feature.

Hi Jim,

I'll propose a feature concerning Samba 4, can you propose this one concerning Grub2 please ? Insisting with the fact it will be great if drakboot can manage grub 2 properly.

Sorry, but I don't agree with making Grub2 the default. The only reason, that I'm aware of to use Grub2 is for UEFI support, and I think (hope) that the plan may be to use gummiboot for that. Making drakboot compatible with Grub2 is a lot of work and I'm not prepared to suggest that someone else do that work. If you are prepared to participate in the necessary development work, feel free to suggest it.

Samba 4 is being worked on and will appear in the Mageia repo's when the packager(s) have the time to package and test it.

Ok, thank you jkerr82508, you answer is exactly what i wondered about Grub2 a couple of day before
After speaking with dev-team, it's still to much (and useless) work to do
