[SOLVED] MCC (drakconf) doesn't start in XFce

Postby laidlaws » Sep 15th, '13, 15:55

In 4 Alpha 2, installed from the KDE CD, with task-Xfce added, the panel icon for MCC does nothing. drakconf seems to have been moved from /usr/sbin to /usr/bin, but editing the launcher doesn't help. I copied across the launcher from Mga3 without success.

In KDE, there is no issue. The KDE menu editor has a place for "run as different user" but I can't find that in Xfce.

Updated mageia-xfce-config to version which should fix this issue. You can "fix"/workaround it by yourself too. Enable StartupNotify in .desktop file.

That made no difference, and it isn't present in Mga 3.

Updating mageia-xfce-config doesn't update user settings automatically. One have to remove ~/.config/xfce/ to get new settings. Note that it also resets all personal Xfce settings/customizations to mga defaults.

BTW, the issue you're seeing is also reported to upstream:

Another report:

Just out of interest, do you think this could be the same bug as the one in MGA4A3 which prevents the menu shortcuts in RazorQT and LXDE and the task bar launcher in LXDE from starting MCC?

Could be. You can test it by modifying /usr/share/applications/drakconf.desktop file and adding StartupNotify=true to it. If launching from menu works after that, it's the same issue.

Thanks for the tip, Wally. I had been scratching my head for ages wondering how the LXDE panel starts MCC. All it says in the panel config is drakconf.desktop. I removed it and replaced it using the panel setup tool and now it says /usr/share/applications/drakconf.desktop.

The StartupNotify setting didn't help, but changing to Terminal=true works a charm. I had been using a desktop .desktop file with that tweak so I reckoned it would work.

So, possibly not EXACTLY the same bug, but likely a close relative?

If you change your tweaked file to disable startup notification but use a terminal, does yours work too?

Could be, but can't say for sure without further digging.

Yes, it does, but a new terminal window is also opened.

Roger that, at the moment I am living with it while I chase down other MGA4 strangeness and set up some vbox systems and other fun stuff.

Still not sure whether I should add comment to the existing bug or go with a new one. I'll let it stew for a while until I can do some more diligent poking around.
