(SOLVED)Cooling fan running like crazy with new 3.8.1 kernel

Postby zxr250cc » Apr 27th, '13, 16:50

I rebooted to an earlier kernel version and it immediately became quiet and worked fine again.

Think Pad X-31 32 bit with all upates...
Pentium M 1.4 ghz

3.6.5 laptop and 3.8.8.8-3 kernels work fine with no high cooling fan usage... I was hearing the fan running for the first time ever with this laptop with new 3.8.1 version kernel.

Anyone else see this?

cheers all

Two comments about other things in mageia 3:

1) Having the i upside down reminded me of the old urban legend of an ostrich hiding its' head in the sand. Yes, I am sure it is a 'graphics' thing or some such idea but it is inconsistent with previous usage and seems to be be poor langauge usage as well. Just a reaction to seeing it.

2) Could there be a desktop like the one you have newly released in a much lighter color to work well with a laptop? The desktop looks nice but is too dark for outdoor usage with a laptop. it seems OK with desktops. Purely on a personal note I don't use darker desktops from SUSE or Mageia or others because they just don't resonate with me somehow. They look a little depressing in fact. Look at SUSE 12.3 desktop for a good example of that and in previous generations I think SUSE 11.3 was like that as well. Yes, this is mageia forum and i am mentioning other examples but I also remember some of the stunningly good looking desktop that mandiva had like 2008, 2009 and others...

Well, some comments:
- for one, now it's much too late for any small fixes or something like that, we're in hard freeze since yesterday evening - and you know, we will be releasing in a few days
- artwork was chosen and frozen months ago, by Atelier/artwork team and council members
- please don't put several issues in one forum thread, they will probably just get unnoticed and be forgotten

I have downloaded the latest kernel update of 3.8.1-1 and the fan has been acting normal again.

Other issues I mentioned after looking at the changes for a couple of weeks and deciding they were worth comment.

cheers all
