Hi,

I'd also like to help test Gnome 3 on Mageia. Is it possible to install it at this stage?

Best regards,
Andrew.

You can install or upgrade to cauldron either by doing a net-install or by changing sources in a Mageia 1 system.

(Cauldron is the development release and is not recommended for normal use.)

Using Cauldron makes sense and is meant for those who
- know their way around in Linux and Mageia to be able to fix problems themselves
- are able to give useful feedback, either on the -dev mailing list or as a bugreport (not just "this does not work")

Of course anybody can install Cauldron. But it's on one's own risk. There was a big fat red warning on the Mandriva Cooker documentation which surely applies to Cauldron:

Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!

It is simply as we already mentioned: Only run Cauldron if you know what you're doing. You should be able to fix smaller
and bigger problems for yourself, and if you're not, then you should at least be able to diagnose them, find a procedure to reproduce
them and send a message to the appropriate mailing list or be kind and gently ask one of the relevant developers on IRC.

Shouldn't there be some warning for Cauldron, additional to
Caution: Hot Magic in here!
May explode or cook your kittens

or something the like?

Coincidence: How would i think about this old rule on my own, and now i see wobo's post.
Well, must be some kind of magic :)

Can anyone point me to some info on what I need to do to change the sources (and what I need to change them to)?

I currently have the Mageia 1 installed with the Gnome desktop.

I'm doing this in a virtual machine, and I fully understand I could break stuff :D

I've just found these instructions for Mandriva:

http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Development ... ing_Cooker

I then tried this (as root), but it doesn't seem to have worked:

Code: Select all
#urpmi.removemedia -a
#urpmi.addmedia --distrib http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/mageia/distrib/cauldron/i586

Here's the output:

Isn't that what I did using mirror.aarnet.edu.au 2 or 3 posts above?

If that isn't using a specific mirror, can you advise how to do it? (ie specific commands?)

This file does not exist on that mirror.
Do a
Code: Select all
urpmi.update -a
to update the information.

I meant pick another mirror (some mirrors are faulty/lagging sometimes... etc).

Thanks ahmad. That looks to have worked without error now. Appreciate your help.

Is anybody else having the issue where every mirror is down? It has been happening to me for the past two days along with some other quirky internet stuff. Right now I want to assume my ISP is at fault, but just wanted to check to see if I was alone like I think I am...

If you're using kernel.org yes it's down, I have no idea how Mirrorlist is handling the outage.
