The version of firefox in mga 3 beta 4 is 17.0.5 although the current available version is now at 20. Is there a particular reason for this version gap?

Mageia ships the ESR version (long term support) of firefox (see here). And so 17.0.5 is the most recent ESR version and included all available security updates as firefox 20.
