[SOLVED] Keyboard Not Working

It seems there is a problem with my USB Dell keyboard not working once I boot the computer and the Grub boot menu appears. I can use the keyboard to choose which kernel/OS to boot, but once it boots to the GDM login screen, the keyboard doesn't work anymore.

This must be a bug somewhere along the line because I also have Salix OS installed as a dual boot setup and using Salix, the keyboard does work. The usb mouse does continue to work without issues and it is not a usb port issue.

This issue started happening about two weeks ago and I had stop using the computer until now and same issue is happening. Using older kernels seems not to work either.

Anyone heard of any keyboard bugs going around?

That is also on Cauldron as per your signature? If you switch to a terminal during that time when it's not working, what does xinput list show?
Is there something in /var/log/Xorg.0.log during that time or in ~/.xsession-errors ?

Once I choose Mga and the login screen appears, the keyboard doesn't respond at all. I can't switch to another console or anything. The mouse continue to work. I can click a username but at the password screen, nothing from the keyboard.

I guess I should be able to chroot into mga from SalixOS. If I do chroot, is there any certain commands to run besides those you mention?

Thnx.

**** Edit ****
Here is the bug report # Bug 9339 for anyone interested.

Maybe a dumb question, but after it gets to the log in screen or desktop if you have auto-login, have you tried unplugging the keyboard and plugging it back in? In different USB ports? I have a couple i5 based machines that keyboards or mice simply will not work in specific USB ports. All USB ports are not created equal.

Well it turns out, I need to press very very hard on the keys for it to show the keystrokes. I don't know why but it works. Once I've logged in, I do not have to press very hard. Again, using Salix or the AMD64 machine, I do not have to type as hard using the same keyboard.
Weird is all I can say. :o
