Mine doesn't work.

Installed from the GNOME Live-CD (not DVD) onto a VirtualBox VM and every time it boots up, it says "something has gone wrong and the system can't recover", with a little picture of a computer looking sad.

Anybody else using VirtualBox?

EDIT: Ah yes, clearly that guy above is. Well, I gave mine a lot less in the way of system resources - 1 CPU and 1 GB RAM. That should be enough though, right?

Re: Bootloaders - grub2 (m3b3)

First, I hope this is the right place to post.
Second, please treat this as a helpful suggestion and not as a criticism.
Third, I have no issue personally as I use my own grub2 to boot all OS's (including M3b3) and any fault in Mageia bootloader (grub-l or grub2 or 'both' or none) has no effect on me at all.

I hesitated to post this but considering......
1) the fierce (imo) discussion/opposition on this topic before/after I joined/installed Mageia
2) the surprise that grub2 was not installed (in M2)
3) Mageia users (imo) still prefer grub-legacy
4) and that in M3b3, grub2 can be installed "co-jointly" with grub-legacy,
and grub-legacy still active if grub2 is installed
5) features of grub2 in m3b3 incomplete or 'buggy' - other os not detected, other os grub don't detect Mageia, "root-directory? not boot-directory?", sym-link not pointing to right kernel, detect btrfs?,grub --version...(all known bugs, bug reports not necessary)

....I think I would be failing as a Mageia member (can I call myself that?) if I do not suggest that......

1) there should be only one instace of grub not /boot/grub/ and /boot/grub2/
2) allow users to choose which grub to use and ensure only one grub version is installed.
3) let full featured grub, whichever version, full ./configure of grub version from
http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/grub-download.html
ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/grub/
4) ensure 'initramfs' and sym-link point to right upgraded kernel whichever grub is used.

Again, I apologize if I ruffle any feathers (but I don't take kindly to rude comments too)
Cheers.

Hi, using boot-nonfree i586 dated 3/14 on vbox v.4.2.10, did not work, had a problem finding mirrors, could only enter manually, which did not work, also, no list of mirrors. New boot-nonfree dated 3/19 get to the installer screen all going well apart from being very slow, then the first error "Installation failed, some files are missing ftp://www.mirrorservice.org/........./libcogl-pango, press yes to continue", so turned off the screen and left it over night to install. This morning was now showing 3:32time to install down from 15:30, it had taken 10 Hrs so far, another error file-roller-3.6.3-2 missing, and it seemed the installer screen was frozen, so shut down.
Using VMware player 5.0.2 with boot-free 3/14, slow, as in left overnight to install, all worked well, now have Mageia 3b3 up and running. Is it Vbox or the mirrors that were causing the problem, Vbox downloaded something like 160 odd million bytes, and nothing to show for it. Might test again next Month on Vbox when data limit is reset.

Chris.

It is not recommended to do a network install of Cauldron.
The problem is that updates do not go to the update repositories but to the core repositories.
What this means is that critical rpm's can be replaced with newer ones before the installer gets to them and as the installer has no way of knowing of the change installation fails.

it´s very nice.
run on MSI wind U270 in Netbook workspace, 1200x600 out of box KDE (manual package selection) so far only one question I can´t figure out where to search for answer is why widgets on Page one, preinstalled and the ones I put there instead of those are so funnily sized - for example Fortune displays text above the blackboard for some reason.. and I am sure the yawp widget was there available now it´s gone

I've been running Mageia 3 beta 3 KDE - 586 for about 2 weeks now.

It has been surprisingly stable. Only issue I've seen is some updates strand for a day or two with missing elements and then one brief issue with LibreOffice Calc. The other issue is the installer did not recognize my other Linux distribution on another partition. So I lost that dist. Might be a recognition error in the installer not sure. The installer defined it as Windows, which it isn't.

Nice work and a beautiful presentation of KDE. I'm more typically a Ubuntu user and tolerate Unity. But I can say I tried Mageia 2 and liked it. Mageia 3 is that much better.

FYI - I was able to get Citrix Receiver working on this version with little fuss. Hurray!

Nice work Mageia team.

An error message resulting from today's (Sunday, April 7, 2013) kernel update:

1 installation transactions failed
There was a problem during the installation:
arch(x86_64) conflicts with kernel-desktop-3.8.6-1.mga3-1-1.mga3.i586

Apparently, the updater is attempting to select and install a kernel unsuited to the hardware. This seems odd to me.

Later updates went well. Thank you.
