Re: Bootloaders - grub2 (m3b3)
First, I hope this is the right place to post.
Second, please treat this as a helpful suggestion and not as a criticism.
Third, I have no issue personally as I use my own grub2 to boot all OS's (including M3b3) and any fault in Mageia bootloader (grub-l or grub2 or 'both' or none) has no effect on me at all.
I hesitated to post this but considering......
1) the fierce (imo) discussion/opposition on this topic before/after I joined/installed Mageia
2) the surprise that grub2 was not installed (in M2)
3) Mageia users (imo) still prefer grub-legacy
4) and that in M3b3, grub2 can be installed "co-jointly" with grub-legacy,
and grub-legacy still active if grub2 is installed
5) features of grub2 in m3b3 incomplete or 'buggy' - other os not detected, other os grub don't detect Mageia, "root-directory? not boot-directory?", sym-link not pointing to right kernel, detect btrfs?,grub --version...(all known bugs, bug reports not necessary)
....I think I would be failing as a Mageia member (can I call myself that?) if I do not suggest that......
1) there should be only one instace of grub not /boot/grub/
and /boot/grub2/
2) allow users to choose which grub to use and ensure only one grub version is installed.
3) let full featured grub, whichever version, full ./configure of grub version from
http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/grub-download.htmlftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/grub/4) ensure 'initramfs' and sym-link point to right upgraded kernel whichever grub is used.
Again, I apologize if I ruffle any feathers (but I don't take kindly to rude comments too)
Cheers.
