A question about grub2, T-23, X-31 updates..

I finally decided to wipe the drive on the X-31 I was working with and reinstalled M3 on it with some changes to the install. I normally set up a computer drive with Windows and Linux. Windows, swap, /boot, /root, and /home and that makes it an extended drive with the more than 4 partitions. Grub2 did not work well for me that way and especially it did not let the laptop shut off somehow. I hit ESC to remove the Plymouth screen and the commands I saw were the ones for starting the computer.

Does grub2 not like being in extended partition system drives?

I set the X-31 up this time with Windows, swap, /boot, and /root and let all the other partitions be in root. (4 primary partitions only) I used grub, not grub2.

I then ran urpmi --auto-select --auto as soon as I got a running system and followed that by replacing all the dbus packages in the laptop as I had trouble with that previously with SYSTEM SETTINGS issues and corrupt dbus files.

With all that said, the current install is working perfectly except for the nagging pop up about do you want to quit. All else works well and acts stable and functions as it should, so far. I am glad to see that Mageia 3 is coming to a full release level. I gave up on the T-23 and put SUSE 12.2 back on it and it runs great with no video issues. i will try M3 again later on it perhaps.

good work on the new release!

cheers all
