M3 beta 2 on IBM T-23!!!

Well, it kept bugging me that I could not get that to work. Sooooooo, I tried again with a slightly different set of boot commands.

I chose TEXT install, SAFE SETTINGS and then hit the HOME key and added 'live xdriver=vesa' in front of the safe settings commands for the live disk. I found these fedora 17 tips from a link in the SUSE site...

A couple of strange things about this:
1) When I was fully booted into the live disk I did not have a working desktop but I had a POP UP (The normal one for the install from the live disk.) type box offering to install Mageia from the live disk on a black desktop.
2) All through the install I only had the pop up type box for the install and a totally black desktop.
3) I decided I had nothing to lose so I installed it.
4) It worked!

When it finished loading and rebooted I have a working desktop and am presently doing updates for the installation.I guess I should check for dbus errors next since this is the same live disk I used to install on the X-31 that I had so many little dbus errors with before when using SYSTEM SETTINGS.

Anyway for now: It's Alive! It's Alive! (Name that movie quote! )

cheers

Oh, yes, I am happy about this!

UPDATE: The dbus files were corrupted again (Like my X-31 was.) so I replaced the packages as instructed previously. Have only two users had that issue with this release? Also, if I leave the video driver on automatic it works. I tried to set it up in MCC and it fails. I guess the driver is still messed up somehow.

cheers all

UPDATE:

The battery widget tells me that the laptop is not plugged in and it shows empty when it is full and the laptop is plugged in. I checked rpm files for battery related files and added what seemed likely. I also added the latest laptop kernel and rebooted but the battery widget still says AC ADAPTOR NOT PLUGGED IN.

Anyone have an idea about this?

cheers

What happens if you removed the battery from the laptop,
plug it in to the AC -> DC adapter and turn it on?

Also do you have a spare battery?

The power supply runs the laptop whether the battery is installed or not. The battery is only a year old and will run the laptop for about 2 1/2 hours if used with XP. (Dual Boot system.)

The battery emblem is shown in the menu tray but shows an X instead of a percentage of charge as it used to do before upgrading to Mageia 3. Ideas?

cheers

I can understand that, but, I have seen some laptops when you try to run
it without a battery things don't go well. It talks to how well the laptops
battery control system works. For instance I have seen laptops not be
able to run if there is no battery installed, connected to the AC -> DC
converter or not.
