I installed the B2 release on an X-31 Think Pad and it went well. It then updated the database rpm file and asked me to make an action. I chose use rpmnew as the main file. After that I could not update files or add other files since the datase file for rpm was either non existent or corrupt in some way. I have tried cleaning the db file with urpmi, removing all and adding again in MCC and all has failed. Short of reinstalling the software is any other option open? urpmi tells me to run recovery for database files. I do not see a command for that. ???
Pentium M, ATI video chipset, 1.5 gb ram.
I also have a T-23 think pad and had the same results as the user posting problems with the screen being upper half ok and lower half vertical alternating stripes of black and what was supposed to be the desktop. Since the REQUIRED PERMISSIONS buttons are illegible the install is impossible at that point. I am going to try again later with that one.
ADDED INFO:
A fatal error occurred: Can't open RPM DB () at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.16.2/Rpmdrake/open_db.pm line 74
I opened kwrite as root and looked at this line and do not know how to edit it to make it work:
$db or die "Couldn't open RPM DB (" . ($::env ? "$::env/rpmdb.cz" : $::rpmdrake_options{'rpm-root'}[0]) . ")";
}
then I tried to clean the rpm db and have this:
urpmi --clean
error: db5 error(-30973) from dbenv->open: BDB0087 DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery
error: cannot open Packages index using db5 - (-30973)
error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm
unable to open rpmdb
I ran urpmi --nolock prior to running the clean command.
Oh, how can I PERMANENTLY KILL the irritating 'are you sure you want to quit' pop up question that
has been added into MCC? Is someone a real fan of Windows Vista nagging questions in here? What line do I edit to permanently remove this unwanted feature from popping up?
cheers
