A clean install should be fine. If you want to upgrade Mageia 2 to cauldron, then you you must go through the "upgrade" UsrMove procedures:

if i do a clean install, i assume my fstab will be changed. i am using an ssd and i have made changes to fstab like trim and some other stuff.

i would like to keep those changes, but i may need to change them again because of the install. is this correct ?

thanks

Well, then just save away your fstab, as a clean install means from scratch, i.e. new fstab.

Only issue you may have is getting the X server to start on your first boot. (e.g. My Radeon requires a couple of extra steps)

Here a previous post of mine:

"FWIW my laptop has an ATI Radeon Mobility 4250 and I do a fresh cauldron install about every other week. I do have initial issues with the Radeon upon first boot; however, I always just login to run level 3, (I add "ro 3" not "init 3", but get the same result.) add the non-free repo then install the needed drivers, firmware and fglrx kernel mod. Reboot to RL3 again. Run the display setup program. Adjust settings accordingly, then reboot to RL5 and proceed normally."

thanks for the response.

will the alpha that is supposed to be released on sept 4 be able to boot >

i believe mageia needs to install vesa automatically instead of having a message
that says it will install vesa and then doesnt.

also it would be nice to not have to see the ata message that the device
is not ready every time u reboot.
