I just read the story of Ennael about switch to next cauldron. I used this solution:http://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/linux/Mageia/distrib/cauldron/i586/media/core/release/mageia-release-common-2-0.1.mga2.i586.rpm. It worked well. Now I wonder what is the intention with Cauldron? Is this a sort of cooker version or what is the meaning of it?

Cauldron is the Mageia equivalent of Mandriva's cooker. It is the development version, with all the usual pitfalls that involves. The first stable release, Mageia 1, should be available on Wednesday. Generally, only tested bugfix and security updates will be provided for the stable release.

Adding to this:

So far Mageia was in development, using Cauldron. There was a freeze a couple of days ago, now ISOs are built from this frozen Caldron and the contents of Cauldron are moved to the /stable directory on the mirrors. After this has been done Cauldron will be "unfrozen" and development starts for the next Mageia release.

As a user you have 2 options:
- stay with Cauldron and witness the development towards Mageia 2 (with all the benefits and downfalls)
- stop updating and switch to /stable on Wednesday to have the stable release of Mageia 1 including security updates and tested bugfixes - but no new software versions (generally spoken, there will be exceptions and - of course - backports). There will also be some discussion and decisions a short while after the release about the future update/release policy of Mageia.
