[SOLVED] The MCC does not see drakwizard expansion

Postby wilcal » May 7th, '12, 17:13

In order to expand the selections in the MCC to include

Configure FTP
Configure web server

Sharing, which included Configure FTP and Configure web server ( httpd ),
I've had to install drakwizard from the Software Management function of the
MCC. drakwizard has as of an install of RC using boot-nonfree.iso this
morning, gone missing. Is there another option to allow the install
of these two functions?

I see that drakwizard-3.7.5-1.mga1.noarch.rpm is in the repo
but for some reason the MCC is not seeing it.

Thanks

I guess with that you mean rpmdrake is not showing the package for installation?
Then you should update your media - drakwizard-3.7.5-1.mga1 is showing as well as matching drakwizard-base

Sorry, I got halfway to the gym and realized that I had
forgotten to change the MCC Software Management
selection to "All". That will make the Drakwizard visible
and allow you to expand the selections on the MCC.

Lets think about if this is still the right way to do this
for Mageia 3. It's not intuitive in the least.

Yes, I'm on your side here! But all the previous discussions about this infamous default setting to "GUI" (starting even back in the good bad Mandriva times on the cooker list) were ended with a decision in favor of the default setting to "Programs with GUI". This also matches the quote by a leading techie (Mandriva at that time, Mageia now) I remember from a discussion at Fosdem 2010: "We want to keep the common user away from the command line as much as possible!" My reply at that time was, "are you kidding?" - He wasn't.

Please keep that topic in the back of your head, and please reraise it when Mageia 2 has been released, the dust around the new release settled and cauldron has reopened again. Wenn need to change this, i'm all for it, too.
