KDE Desktop delay after re-login

I installed Mageia 2 Beta 3 KDE 32 bit Live CD. Everything is generally working well,
but I do have an experience and want to see if others also have it.

If I log out out my KDE desktop returning back to the login screen and then log back in
, it takes longer than expected to have access to the desktop.

What I mean it takes 10 or more seconds to be able to click the Application Launcher
Menu button and have it bring up the menu after the KDE desktop appears.

Once the desktop is available, I am not experiencing any other unexpected delays.

Could be some of the auto starting apps the are dealying it a bit. I had the same problem once in suse and it was networkmanager that made it that way.

Going back into the Mandriva days, back in the
Mandriva 9's, there was a significant delay
built into the start up process that delayed
the network connection for about 5 seconds.
The reason for that had to do with NFS shares.
I can't tell if that is what your experiencing
but I am seeing that same small delay in Mageia
that I saw put into Mandriva.

For awhile I had to add the following command to
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
LINK_DETECTION_DELAY=5
which delayed the network connection by 5 seconds.
That command is no longer needed for me as
it appears that the delay is built into the
login process.

It was also CPU specific. The faster the cpu the
longer you had to delay the link detection.

What's odd is the initial log in to the KDE desktop does not have this delay. It takes
about 3-4 seconds until the music plays and everything on the desktop is available.

I use a CDMA USB Mobile Broadband modem that must be configured as an Analog telephone
modem (POTS) on ppp0. It does not automatically connect. Thinking like cmj, that it
may be network related, I removed it and set my network connection to a local access
only wireless router. I still experienced the delay after making this change.

Also, turned off the automatic loading of the update manager applet. But still have the delay.
