There still seems to be an issue when trying to use Unetbootin with the LiveCD. My CD drive doesn't work well at all, and even if I burned the CD on my wife's laptop I am not sure it will be seen on mine.
What is the best current way to create a bootable USB stick with the Live CD image? Thank you !
On my 2 year old hp pavillion (ATI card), it seems extremely slow to bring up the main cauldron image (5 minutes for the entire piece to show), then stops.

1: Is a problem with Unetbootin, it can't handle hybrid images.
2: The best way to put the image on a stick is mandriva-seed, second best is good old dd.
3: I hear your pain with your hp pavilion, mine will not boot a 3.xx kernel, 2.6x kernels boot fine.

Yes, thanks, I found mandriva seed, also something called Rufus. I'll try mandriva seed first.

EDIT: The Jolicloud USB creator turned out to do the trick. Didn't find a recent enough copy of mandriva-seed. Running Beta 3 now, all good so far.

A few days ago, I upgraded from mga1 to mga2 and so far so good. Today I see updates coming but see these few with this message about missing signatures.

Code: Select all
The following packages have bad signatures:
/var/cache/urpmi/rpms/gmime-sharp-2.6.8-1.mga2.i586.rpm: Missing signature (OK ((none)))
/var/cache/urpmi/rpms/libgmime2.6_0-2.6.8-1.mga2.i586.rpm: Missing signature (OK ((none)))
/var/cache/urpmi/rpms/libkfontinst4-4.8.2-3.mga2.i586.rpm: Missing signature (OK ((none)))
/var/cache/urpmi/rpms/libkfontinstui4-4.8.2-3.mga2.i586.rpm: Missing signature (OK ((none)))
/var/cache/urpmi/rpms/libplasma_applet_system_monitor4-4.8.2-3.mga2.i586.rpm: Missing signature (OK ((none)))
/var/cache/urpmi/rpms/libusb-compat0.1_4-0.1.3-5.mga2.i586.rpm: Missing signature (OK ((none)))
/var/cache/urpmi/rpms/plasma-applet-system-monitor-hwinfo-4.8.2-3.mga2.i586.rpm: Missing signature (OK ((none)))
Do you want to continue installation ? (y/N)

Is it okay to continue?

Thnx.

Yes, was asked here (viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2270) just a couple of hours ago, reported as a bug and already fixed.

Going to pass on the distro for now - here's my error in case anyone else is having the problem. 32bit Gnome .iso (md5 and sha1 matched)
Both USB and Live CD - getting "system has to be rebooted due to display driver change" (cancel or abort options)

Dell XPS M1330
Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T7250 @ 2.00GHz × 2
Nvidia Geforce 8.x
Current OS: Ubuntu 12.04/Gnome 3.4

(please don't refer me to bugzilla - spent enough time on the distro already - just wanted to help)

Tks!

hybrid ISO, dd to a USB stick, boot but cancel the video driver warning, and away we go!

Running on an Aspire 7560-sb600

Found my wireless card, took the pass key and jumped on line.

So far no problems.

Everything is working pretty well, I like!

I do run in to a problem, the PPTP VPN with Network Manager doesn't work, it keeps saying connection failed. Will this be worked out by release?

If you file a bugreport about it and if some dev finds the bug, then perhaps.

Is it a problem only with Network Manager or also with drakconnect?

mageia2 beta3 xfce : a few returns

Postby epilip » Apr 26th, '12, 10:23

First of all, thank you for all the work.
- xfce not yet an installation choice like LXDE (very bad). It should great mageia being really GUI agnostic
- no splash screen during boot, only console messages (no problem but seems old school)
- xfce "Parameters" panel does not contain the whole menu of parameters (no problem but it does not look professional)
- Title bar of active window stucked to light blue (gtk oxygen ?) (annoying grrrr)

This will be only Network Manager, can't check it in Drakconnect becasue it doesn't support PPTP VPN types.

Postby caskyline10 » Apr 27th, '12, 19:22

Hi,
Just want to give some feedback on my own Mageia 2 Beta 3 testing.

I was able to install the 32 bit LiveCD, and boot with no problems.
I configured my brother MFC-7840W printer and it seem to work well.
I was able to configure my wireless cards and use the wireless network
Tested flash and watching video in Firefox.
Installed CrossOffice and tested running MS Office.
All seems to work well. Looking forward to RC.

This is the same system that I could not boot after installing beta 1 without setting radeon.modset=0. This time I was able to install,
and boot with no issues, then install the radeon-firmware.

My hardware: 32 bit Dell desktop with 3GB RAM
Code: Select all

I've installed beta3 on 2 computers, 32 and 64 bit. It is working very smooth. Also non repo programs were installed without problems. On the 64 bit system unetbootin and mandriva-seed are not working.
But anyway, well done Mageia. The switch from Mandriva to Mageia is a fact.

I have a problem with grub on Mageia 2 32 bit. Is there any workaround? Thank you. I have 5 distros on my PC and the only Mageia uses grub 1.

Please open up a new thread, and please at least describe the problem a bit more. Just telling "i have a problem, [...] only Mageia uses grub 1" is no real description.
