[SOLVED] Screen saver slide show eats lot of CPU power

Postby bertaerts » Apr 16th, '12, 20:24

Every time I come back to my notebook, the screen is turned off but the "default" screensaver with slide show is busy, when I move the mouse. Some strange patterns with small square blocks move over the screen. It takes seconds before this stops. When looking at the CPU monitor I see a load of more than 50%. I really don't want this and can not find where to turn off this "second" screensaver. I only want the slide show with nice pictures.

So now I have the simplistic KDE banner :-(

What graphics card and what driver are you using? Please post the output of
Code: Select all
grep -i driver /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

Please use Code-Tags for such output ...

I can't really help you, as i don't use a screensaver, and for most newer LCD/LED display it's also no good idea and just wastes energy.

It seems to be the known bug: https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5020
I encountered the same problem and decided to change my screensaver, too.

The workaround as explained in the bug report works fine. Thanks!

We can vote in that bug to have the workaround to be there from start.
