Beta2: I'm impressed (experience report)

Yet another Beta 2 experience:
i586 DVD - used as trigger for a network installation to avoid those bugs which have been fixed after Beta2 release.

I installed on a Lenovo netbook with 2 Gb RAM, a 4Gb ESSD and Broadcom 4312 wifi. The small size of the harddisk and the "infamous" Broadcom chip are the main hoops to jump through. Task was to install a KDE (i have my reasons there) with just the apps I want. So I went through individual package selection to unmark everything I do not want to be installed.

Overall experience: I am impressed in both ways:

I am impressed of the ability of the installer to ignore most of my (un)selection. One example of several: I carefully unselected the whole games section and I carefully unselected the package kdegames. nevertheless the whole kdegames package was installed including all games and all handbooks to those games! In the end the installer presented me with a system which took more than 2.9Gb of my 4Gb disk. Now I spent more than 1 hour in MCC removing everything I did not want from the start - summed up to a bit less than 1Gb, now df tells me I the system is using a mere 2.0Gb.

OTOH I am impressed about the quality after the latest bug fixes: no delay on systemstart nor on shutdown, working wifi with broadcom-wl driver, sound ok, working flash-player after a simple urpmi command, etc.

Good job!

I predict that Mageia will reach the
top 5 on Distrowatch after the release
of Mageia 2.

I'd rather be happy if it reaches the average 5 million users whereever they may be!

And to see them all at the "Mageia Parade" sometime in summer in sunny Berlin. :)
