ext4fs is the module of the default kernel. Not a part, but only a module. The default filesystem is ext3.
Also, what do you mean with icon-only taskmanager? And which desktop environment?
Icon-only task manager is a KDE's applet, KDE 4.8.0. But, it looks like the trouble of systemd, not KDE's one.
I've read the release notes. Why the developers don't want to make up-to-date changes of system, like the other vendors? Grub 0.X is no longer being developed, RPM 4.X contains a very old code and all vendors get rid of it.
To prevent the outcries, if there will be, I use Mageia because the distribution supports a lot of devices; I use the st-lab controller and strange hdds, the other OSes, except openSUSE can't see them. And I've installed Mageia, because it has the spirit of Mandriva and Mandrake in the inside and I want to see the distribution being moving on and developing.
