Today Mageia made the first Beta of Mageia 2 available.
This according to the roadmap exactly due schedule.

Warning: Alpha and Beta releases are NOT suitable for production-systems, only for testing.

How to find the future changes of the upcoming release? I'm interested in grub2 (I liked it to use in openSUSE) and including ext4fs into the kernel.

P.S. I have Mageia 2 Beta 1, and when I press button "reboot" or "shutdown" in the kickoff, I only close the session, the computer doesn't reboot. It looks like systemd isn't bound firmly to the system.

P.P.S. Every boot in icon-only task manager I see the firefox icon. I delete it, but the next boot gets it back. How to erase the icon from the task manager?

I can confirm.
Any button reboot/shutdown is not working (menu, panel applet).

That should be https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_2_Release_Notes
But what do you mean with ext4fs into the kernel? ext4 is the default already, and it's been included with the kernel for at least two years ...

Also, what do you mean with icon-only taskmanager? And which desktop environment?

Thank you for the reply, but:

ext4fs is the module of the default kernel. Not a part, but only a module. The default filesystem is ext3.

Also, what do you mean with icon-only taskmanager? And which desktop environment?

Icon-only task manager is a KDE's applet, KDE 4.8.0. But, it looks like the trouble of systemd, not KDE's one.

I've read the release notes. Why the developers don't want to make up-to-date changes of system, like the other vendors? Grub 0.X is no longer being developed, RPM 4.X contains a very old code and all vendors get rid of it.

To prevent the outcries, if there will be, I use Mageia because the distribution supports a lot of devices; I use the st-lab controller and strange hdds, the other OSes, except openSUSE can't see them. And I've installed Mageia, because it has the spirit of Mandriva and Mandrake in the inside and I want to see the distribution being moving on and developing.

Default filesystem for Mageia is ext4. Yes, ext4 is only a module, but why should it be builtin to the kernel, where's the advantage?

Grub2 would take a lot of work to implement, so it was delayed at least until Mageia 3, and rpm.org is not outdated.
FWIW, there are actually just a few minor distributions who currently use rpm5, and so far, for endusers there's not much reason
for using rpm5, as it doesn't bring any relevant and useable major advantages for endusers.

There's a good reason Grub2 is not used by many distros... It's not usable/config is not parsable by humans, and it's not ready for prime time IMHO and many others.

It's currently a great idea taken far, far beyond the limits of usability and sanity.

If your Grub2 setup gets jacked, you reinstall and pray the installer gets it right this time, unless you are a whole lot more of a guru than I.
(I've been running "Linux On the Desktop" since long before Slackware 1.0, consider as background)

I'm already installing an OS, Grub2 is larger and more complex to use than several operating systems I can think of..

Fortunately, we ONLY need a bootloader, and there are MANY others to choose from.
I personally pray Grub2 will go the way of the dodo before it gets adopted.

RPM5 has issues as well, although nowhere remotely as bad as GRUB2, mostly just integration etc.

OK, now for the real questions/observations I came for...

Fresh install of the beta, 64bit, DVD install

issues:

Required clocksource=jiffies (per usual) on my AMD box or it locked right after loading the serial drivers.
Does setting clocksource=jiffies hurt anything for any config? I have found it required on many installs, not just my personal AMD rig. Should it be a default?

The installer seemed to have a morbid fixation on finding the dead floppy I didn't realize I had showing in the BIOS, it timed out for ~5 minutes trying to probe for it. I finally gave in and killed it in the BIOS after rebooting, no further issue.

System also could not parse the NVRAID array I have been using fine under Mageia1 (and Mandriva long before) for video recording/storage (mythtv) I'll be giving that another try after loading all the updates.

The tainted repo (21) seems to be offline?

Otherwise looks great so far.

On many installs? It's rather uncommon, mostly related to ACPI bugs and weird wiring of the timer devices.
I know it from my old laptop, it was reported but never resolved: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11727

For the tainted repo, which mirror did you use?
