What needs to be fixed for M2A3?

What's your single most important issue
that you'd like to see working in M2A3?

For me that would be to get NFS client
working again.

In case you haven't participated:
An overall survey with the question about your "single most important issue" is running in viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1661
This survey is there to find out exactly what you were asking, just on a wider scale.

I agree with that and have contributed to
that survey. But, it is not Cauldron specific.
I think each one of us has a specific issue
that is important during the development
process of Cauldron. For me that would
be a corporate install and not having
NFS support in the final release would be
a serious short coming. Others will have
other issues that they would like to see
addressed as early as possible ( M2M3 )
so that they can do specific testing.

Thanks for your input.

It is, just on a larger scale. It is not about single bug reports but about what is required and should be working/available for sure. The survey is running for Mageia users until end of this month and will be wrapped up in a report for the council. So it should have an impact on the same field as your question.
Thanks for casting your votes.

Just wondering, would it be possible for a Mageia 2 release keeping gnome 2? I would prefer to keep gnome 2 as opposed to gnome 3. But it seems most every distribution is forgetting Gnome 2 now. Gnome 3 classic is nice but it is not quite the same. Am I the only one who feels this way or are their others?

Or do a modified version such as Linux Mint's by default

Since upstream doesn't provide any more support for gnome 2, we can't keep it, simple as that.
For the other part, there's a discussion on the -discuss and -dev mailing lists about Mint's Cinnamon.

I figured so, just wondering because a few distros kept Gnome 2 even after Gnome 3 came to existence. But the fact remains sooner or later the update would be needed. But I would greatly like a interface such a Linux Mint's (its on my GF's laptop and is amazing compared to the regular Gnome 3 without extensions) I have signed up for many mailing list but have not been keeping up with the discussions much. I may add my input later. Would anyone else support this or are "the majority" satisfied the way it is? If so it should stay how it is and the rest of us can use extensions.

Gnome 2 is done. I tried to think of a way to best
explain it and came up with this. It's kinda like
electronic circuits that use vacuum tubes. They
are even around today but their day is gone.
We had to move on and now everything is solid state.
Same with Gnome 2 -> Gnome 3. There's only so
much you can extract, tweek, change and update
and their ain't no more room anymore to get it better.
So it's out with the old and in with the new. The new
is a little rough on the edges right now. Gnome 2
took a lot of years to get it to where it is. So will
be Gnome 3 whatever form it eventually takes.

I understand what you are getting at. BUT Gnome 3 will never ever be remotely close to being as good as Gnome 2 was by default unless Gnome developers realize they made a huge mistake. Linux Mint has shown how great Gnome 3 can be, but the default Gnome 3 interface is not very good as compared to Gnome 2 by default. The one arguement I can make to what you said, is that there is not one fully logical reason to move beyond Gnome 2 except to be compatible with newer updates (which Gnome 2 would be compatible with if it was still default) Performance wise Gnome 2 is superior ( unless somehow having a heavier shell akes your computer faster =D ) Productivity wise Gnome 2 is superior you can perform most task in half the click in Gnome 2. (This is debate-able) I will be fine with Gnome 3 IF the Mageia devs make it more similar to Linux Mint's version or when the extensions begin to work with newer version of Gnome 3 lol

Well, there is (apart from individual preferences and the flow of other distributions) the question of manpower. If you could round-up a group of packagers who would implement and maintain Gnome2 in Mageia (including future releases) without disturbing the rest of the system I am quite positive that you could have your way. If not I'm afraid not.
There was a discussion very early (I think even before Mageia 1 was out) and a decision to have Gnome3 in Mageia 2. One of the reasons (among others) was the unsufficient manpower to maintain 2 versions of Gnome. So they decided in favor of the version which is supported and maintained upstream.

I agree with that decision, it would be way to much hassle to maintain both. I just think they should alter the default Gnome 3 interface.

They are still around despite all progress made since history phasing them out because they still provide the best sound quality. Same as vinyl, same as analog sound.
Progress sometimes suck.
