Today I did a complete installation on my 64-bit notebook. When I say "complete" I mean it:
- checked all boxes in package group selection
- checked all DEs in package group selection.
Total space needed was more than 6,8 GByte
So now I have KDE, Gnome, LXDE, and Openbox. The goal of this test was to see if and how the different DEs influence each other when I switch from one to another and back and all around. Some Mandriva releases back this resulted in having double icons on the desktop (one from KDE, one from Gnome) and other disturbences.
Today with Mageia Beta2 all went smooth, I tried all DEs, tested the usual software including the draktools.
- Dragon and Totem do not play mpeg videos (vlc and mplayer do), gstreamer-plugins (bad + ugly) are installed.
- in Openbox there is Xfce terminal listed in the menue but it does not start, same for xterm
- in Openbox no menue entry for mcc
Graphics (backgrounds) need to be adjusted a bit better in all sections (that's already on its way as artwork mailing list tells).
Overall a good experience, I've seen finals which were not as good as this Beta2!
