Printer assistance with Mageia 9 beta 2

I installed from the non-live iso and I'm loving the distro but I have one problem. When I went to set up the printer, it asked to set up cups so I let it. I can go through the printer setup from either the Control Center hardware section or the web portal but it isn't finding the network printer and entering the ipp address manually still doesn't find it. I'm wondering if there is something else I need to setup/activate to get Magia and CUPS to find the network printers. All of my computers running other linux distros are able to see them. I don't know if it is because the main install uses the legacy network instead of networkmanager or if a printer service isn't running and needs to be started. Any assistance is very much appreciated!!

Welcome to our forum!
Nice that you love our distro :)

Have you updated your system?

Probably not relevant, but which desktop do you use? (Plasma / Gnome / ...)

When you say web portal, do you mean CUPS http://localhost:631/ ?

What is your printer model?

Can you ping the printer?

Thank you. And, yes, I do love it so far. I just want to resolve this one problem and I'll make it my daily driver on that laptop. Below are answers to your questions:

Yes, I have updated the system.
I'm using Cinnamon desktop (my favorite).
Yes, I do mean localhost:631. Neither the printer setup in hardware nor the CUPS localhost is seeing it under network printers.
The model is Epson XP-4200. I didn't see it in the list of drivers but I know CUPS has a driver for it because it loads on my Mint, Fedora, and OpenSUSE distro machines.
Yes, I can ping it from the Mageia system. The below info is what my Mint computer says.
Driver: EPSON XP-4200 Series, driverless, cups-filters 1.28.15 (color, 2-sided printing)
Connection: implicitclass://EPSON_XP_4200_Series/

Thanks again for your assistance!

You may want to check if you have the firewall configured to discover network printers, currently this needs to be done manually and by default this is disabled.

It turned out to be the firewall settings. The printer is working perfectly now. Thanks!!!

Oh...
I upped the importance of that bug.
Until solved I think this is worth to get entered into the errata.

@ coaxguy99
Was it sufficient to enable "Network printer/scanner autodiscovery" ?

I enabled both "Network printer/scanner autodiscovery" as well as "CUPS Server" and that did the trick.

Question is if CUPS Server need to be enabled.

Then also the question of opening up for usability versus closing down for security. See comment on bug.

I wonder, is this autodiscovery only needed to set it up, and can then be closed?
If you disable "Network printer/scanner autodiscovery" and "CUPS Server", and reboot: is the printer still there and can be used?

I tried disabling "Network printer/scanner autodiscovery" and "CUPS Server", and rebooting and CUPS couldn't find the printer. At least for my install, I need to leave both of these enabled in order for printing to work but with them enabled, it works like a champ.

Just to clarify: it is not enough to enable "Network printer/scanner autodiscovery" ?
(heading for errata entry)
