(Solved (foolishness)) beta uprade Gimp borked

Gimp runs, works, but latest upgrades (just noticed gimp failure, dont know files upgraded to blame)

Gimp gradient has a math failure (image uploaded)
The settings should produce a smooth gradient, it produces a stepped thingee

Solution is to learn GIMP better You can see my error in the uploaded image. "Sawtooth wave" at the bottom left corner, inadvertent check on a purposeful effect I'd never used before.
