New install off Magiea i586 XFCE. I cannot get MCC to start, It pulls up the root password screen, but nothing happens. The following is a copy of my terminal. My Host name is set to mag1.

Code: Select all
[user@mag1 ~]$ mcc
Too late to run INIT block at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/Glib/Object/Introspection.pm line 257.
Ignore the following Glib::Object::Introspection & Gtk3 warnings

Please have a look at viewtopic.php?p=76517#p76517
and provide the output of the commands as listed there.

Loks fine so far, and polkit also seem to be working as expected. Is that a fresh Mageia 7 install, or did you already install updates ?

I have installed and updated at least three times. I have been able to run just about all the components from MCC from command line from terminal after downloading MCC manual. MCC has never run either on a fresh install or an updated one.
Thankyou for your help.

There is no 8.1 so what you're running is cauldron. You should be aware that's a development version, see https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Cauldron#Who ... ldn.27t.3F

From what you can see, static hostname seems to be already set and xauth cookie is also bound to that hostname.

I really do not think it is the hostname, because on my pclinuxos machine the host files look indentical and control center works. I can run all of the individual commands that the mcc gui starts from terminal. I am happy with the 586 version on this old amd 3000xp with 3gig and 6200 nvidia. I just hate it when i cannot figure out what is causing this. Thanks for the help

please post result of

did one of those 400+ updates include a new kernel?

does booting into a prior kernel allow MCC to work?

Yes, one of the 400 updates was a kernel. It went from 5.1.14 to 5.7.19. I have not tried booting from the old kernel yet, will try later and let you know.

your cpu does not support SSE2 instruction set.
I have a AMD Athlon(TM) XP 2400+ and some applications do not work due to this, Mageia Welcome is one, Isodumper another.
I will update it in the near future and see if I have the same issue.

It is possible that either the new kernel was compiled with SSE support disabled, or MCC now requires SSE2 support to function.
If a previous kernel works ok, it would seem a bug report is required.

PS: welcome to the shrinking "real 32bitters club"

Well, it is not the kernel.

Code: Select all
[test@mag1 ~]$ uname -a

Well thanks for welcoming me to the true 32bit club, but I still have a shuttle ak35 with athalonxp 3000 that i run native wfw 3.11 and it still networks with a samba server.

well,
it seems my XP2400+ install was a net install and in running the 5.7... kernel.
Same MCC issue as you.

my time to test is limited, but I will see if I can determine the offending package(s).

QA (Quality Assurance) team is aware of the issue and can reproduce it.

from Mailing list: qa-discuss:
I've reproduced this using qemu to emulate a Pentium cpu. The journal shows

kernel: traps: drakconf[...] trap invalid opcode ip:... sp:... error:0
in libjavascriptcoregtk-4.0.so.18.17.3[...]

so likely to be either a sse2 or cmov instruction.

QA mainly deal with testing and approving updates for Mga7, and to a lesser extent, keeping an eye on cauldron development.
QAs main Mga8 involvement during the Alpha and Beta phases falls under testing the .isos before release, checking that they boot from various media, on various platforms and in bios/ UEFI modes, and that the install completes cleanly and reboots cleanly.
During the RC and Release phases, they will be checking and ensuring that major components of the installed system work as expected, i.e MCC, icon sets are complete, commonly used applications work as expected, mouse tool tips are there, ...etc

and also later from the qa-discuss mailing list:
Should be fixed in webkit2-2.30.2-2.mga8, which is building now.

look forward to the update and advise if problem fixed / persists

so, thanks for the bug find.

suggest you create a bug report for Mga7 MCC .

have look here => https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_report_a_bug_properly

Please link back the bug report to here, for others whom have the same issue.

thanks
