Just to try to be clear to newcomers:
Cauldron is the development version that is to become next Mageia.
So yes currently it is getting towards Mageia 8, and packages are named mga8.
doktor500 signature is exactly correct - to use it you must have some skills and be prepared to fix it at it is meant to be broken now and then.
That said, if you are skilled and watch the development you can upgrade and update when least risk of problems.
We release beta isos when ready - they are not for upgrading other than for just testing that, and to test fresh install, and live modes.
And you are welcome to help testing - but we can not help with newbie issues on Cauldron.
Currently last beta is old and irrelevant, but that said you may want to try it on a USB stick in live mode just to get a look, and then maybe in persistent mode and install updates, but it will take long to update and may very well fail updating. (But did work for me a while ago.)
