Difference between MCC update and urpmi update?

Postby banjo » May 31st, '19, 13:50

This is an information question, not a problem.

I am running Mageia 7/Cauldron. Now that Mageia 7 has switched over to RC, updates no longer show up in the applet or in the MCC. However, the Cauldron updates do show up using urpmi --auto-update.

Given that the mirrors on my system are the same for both operations, my question is, what is urpmi looking at to gain access to the cauldron updates that the MCC is not? I thought that opening the MCC and clicking on "Update your system" and running "urpmi --auto-update" would be equivalent commands. What am I missing?

After I install the Mageia 7 official release on my other system, will MCC update and urpmi update do different things?

Here are my mirrors.

The applet only looks at updates repos, which are not existent for cauldron. urpmi --auto-update only checks for "newer" versions of all installed packages from all configured repositories.
I believe you can get the same behavior in rpmdrake if you select "All updates".
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!

Thanks for the info. I will take a look at the MCC again to learn a bit more about the settings.
