Better support for newer hardware

Postby Kosh » Apr 24th, '19, 23:30

Hi,

What is the procedure to submit a list of hardware information to get my (relatively new) Asus laptop hardware better supported in the next mageia-kernel?
If I open the hardware tab in MCC i see about 9 items listed as unknown, i.e. chipset, thermal subsytem items and i think some specific Asus keyboard-keys.

Thanks.

There is no specific mageia-kernel. And unknown in that context only means that there's no specific kernel module for that component, e.g. if it's already built-in to the kernel.
You can submit a bugreport, but if the support is not available in the upstream kernel then there's not much that can be done about that. FWIW we're just packaging the regular linux kernel, as other distros also do.

Apart from that, did you encounter any actual issues regarding chipset support?

Not specifically no, but I was thinking from a windows perspective, that if there are unknown devices, the machine is not used optimally.
I see some wifi-firmware (UEFI) messages during boot (iwlwifi AC9650), but according to internet postings, I could ignore them if the adapter works and it does.
