Canon USB printer on M6 STA 1

My partner has an old Canon inkjet printer that works fine on Mageia 5, but, although lsusb shows it is plugged in and seen by the computer, I cannot get it to work on M6 STA 1.

I have tried manually entering he URI details from my M5 laptop like this:

usb://Canon/MP495%20series?serial=01C100&interface=1

I then selected the printer's driver manually. I seem to remember that with USB printers mcc normally just sees the printer and suggests suitable drivers. I get nothing like that at all here.

I must stress this works fine with Mageia 5 and so it's not a printer issue.

Is this a known thing with STA1? Should I file a bug report?

Thanks!
