If mysql is keyed from a prompt, it returns this:

Code: Select all
bash-4.3$ mysql
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/
var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2 "No such file or directory")

Less than helpful.

I didn't boot up until tonight. I ran update from the mcc before keying 'mysql' from bash as a regular user and up it came with no error message!
Thanks for your help. I'll keep your suggestion for the next time. There always seems to be one. :)
