I know that there is some security for the CPU temperature...
But i got this kind of issue a long time ago(it was a 150 Mhz CPU) with freezing.. That why I got the idea..

I have installed Mageia2b3-x86_64 dvd on two systems, very similar, amd fx and Ga-990fxa-ud3 (rev 1.0 and 1.1)

Both installs went very well, taking (about) 25 min (over all, including setting up and formatting at least 10 partitions each) from a flash drive.

Speaking of partitions, when I set up and installed from the kde-live flash, the installer after writing the fstab to the drive, could not reload the flash drive with the installer on it.

I tried to grub2 (and gnu/linux kernel 3.x) to work with mandy last year, and it was miserable, the grub worked but nothing else(my bad), and it's no-novice land to get rid of it.

I'm glad (for many) you waited.

I'm happy about,
Kernel 3.x
Amarok web lookups work again
kde4
MCC
SystemSettings
glxgears is smooth but slow
Code: Select all
glenn@GamesBox:~$ glxgears
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh.  The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
4785 frames in 5.0 seconds = 956.853 FPS
5001 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1000.165 FPS
4755 frames in 5.0 seconds = 950.829 FPS
glenn@GamesBox:~$
with the nouveau driver.
I've had glxgears (software 3d emulation) up to ..."frames in 5.0 seconds = 9000 FPS" with the nvidia driver and 2.6 kernel. But I've yet to try with this OS.

Downside, snd-usb-audio. Linux prefers to use my graphics card as an audio output (hdmi cable to monitor and inbuilt speakers/audio switcher), not used here),

when I have a perfectly good usb audio box connected. I changed it over in System settings, but that might be hard for novices to find, maybe not.

A good way to see what kde does by default (usually everything works, lol!) is to rename your home .kde folder to kde-old.

If you try this while running kde, a new .kde folder will be created based on the config that is in place/live now. So there's a good chance you just get back what you had.

so do the renaming just before you log off or while your not using the gui (init 3).

I have found this to be useful in gaining the new functions and being able to copy my old data like amarok database and ktorrent and more.

When you restart kde a new .kde folder will be created from the defaults.

I also really like gwenview, now it plays avi, mpeg, flv, and wmv movies in slideshows. Mageia1 broke on my system, gwenview, amarok and ktorrent, and k3b for a time.
edit...

In search of More "frames per second".
Just finished a custom kernel and installed the nvidia drivers (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-295.40.run)
glenn@GamesBox:~$ uname -a && glxinfo | grep render && glxgears (28-04 16:15)

I have system installed from DVD.

I added vlc (tained) and tried to play DVD. But only sound. There was not any video output.
The same was in case of .mp4 or .mov files.
Smplayer did the same. Only sound, not video.

It is strange because in case of Mageia 1, I did not have to add any special packages for playing video.

My first impressions for mageia2 beta3.

1- I installed on my hp 530 laptop by one cd (KDE). Full installation finished in 12 minutes.

2- I am very glad for there is not akonadi.

3- I like interface colour.

4- Only-task manager is very useful and beautiful.

5- Mageia2 boot is fast than mageia1 boot.

6- Package amount has been increased in the repository.

7- Touchpad and monitor light setting are working on the samsung nc110 notebook successfully. (I tried with onecd.)

I think mageia2 is very succesful. Thanks Mageia team.

Hi, make sure you have the gstreamer plugins installed.

I've noticed (since mga2) that gstreamer has a packagekit (rpm installer) and tools apps rpms.

On my last install, gwenview (the player I use most) interupted playback and downloaded all the plugins the system needed (sweeet!).

If you want to watch and listen mp4 videos, you can install "mplayer 1.rc4.0.r32713.5.3.mga.tainted" from tainted repository for smplayer.
