Hi, I succesfully try Mageia 2 on my PC with nvidia 6100 card. I have problem with nvidia proprietary driver and I must work with nouveau. I do not know, whether is the bug or not. All works perfectly.

The solution to this problem is to install Thunar (It's that I have always used for E).

The third problem is the Plymouth, works poorly, every time you leave a bubble in the logo, the screen goes black, so haste three times until you get the login mananger.

I've a clean install using:

Mageia-2-rc-x86_64-DVD.iso

on the following system:

Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz overclocked to 3.8GHz LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core
GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE GV-N440D3-1GI GeForce GT 440 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16
CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

The install 64-bit DVD recognized the Nvidia video board and
properly installed the Nvidia driver.

I did run into a new issue with installing webmin and
will open a new bug report shortly. Not a biggie.

Hi, I tried Mageia 2 RC 64 after being a loyal Mandrake/Mandriva user for 12 years from version 7.2 until version 2011 KDE.
It installed wo problems on my FS AH530 notebook and found all my HW. Trying to run update gave me the same nightmare I had with earlier Mandrake/Mandriva distros.
The source, which was now $MIRRORLIST did not work, so I googled and found a solution here:
https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=488,
applying the following after removing all the sources:
Code: Select all
urpmi.addmedia --distrib ftp://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/linux/mageia/distrib/cauldron/x86_64/

solved my update/install problem.
Don't know if that is a problem with Magaia 2 RC or just with my Notebook.
Anyway, it is working.
Still testing and I may post some more findings.
Thanks Mageia, I may come back to my favorite Mandrake/Mandriva/Mageia distro.
I have tried Linux Mint, PCLinuxOS, Ubuntu, they were ok, but I was missing an importend part which was the Control Center. I can not live without it in the Linux World. Don't understand why no other distro except PCLinuxOS has adopted it.

update:
I re-installed the distro and this time the MIRRORLIST was working. Don't know what was the reason, maybe the mirrorlist picked the wrong source. Anyway it is working beautifully.

Installed RC1 yesrerday from a live cd (KDE). It's attractive and running well. Congrats on a remarkable job.
Missing packages (so far): k9copy, iceape, sunjava.

Again, there's no way to express the gratitude that so many of us feel toward the intrepid team that brought this to us.

Cheers

k9copy was dropped because it is not being maintained upstream.
IIRC iceape was dropped because Mageia does not have a volunteer to maintain the package.
sunjava was dropped because Oracle decided to prohibit re-distribution.

Installed Mageia after a looong time (feels really great to be back at *home* :) ) from the Live CD. The desktop environment is KDE and everything was extremely smooth during installation, no problems. After installation, KDE never felt better with Mageia..considering that I was using openSUSE 12.1 earlier. The fonts needed fixing as they looked fuzzy for me. I patched the stock freetype with infinality RPMS and tweaked it to my liking. Looks great so far!

Great job, Mageia team!

Hi,

I installed the Mageia RC 2 (KDE - LiveCD) in 2 machines. Both are updated today (2/14/2012), a desktop (with nvidia video card) and a compact notebook. Both are working very well.

Note:
1 - In both installations, the folder /home/mageia-2-rc/.config/menus as root. This prevents you editing menu application launcher. So, is necessary to change the propritário folder for the common user.

2 - In the notebook, at startup, there is a warning:
%Gudevd[182]: could not find module by name='ath5k' (I copied from file: var/boot.log)

There are no errors in the notebook that I can associate with this warning. Everything is working ok

3 - The KDE 4.8.2 is very good. I Just note that there is an option in the Menu Application Launcher to uninstall the application. I ask that if this does not conflict with the function of the Mageia Control Center-MCC one hand and on the other, if not confusing users who may think that is the uninstall icon in the menu?

    4 - GIMP 2.8.0 - Innovations:
      a) toolbar - windows - option: "single window mode"
      b) saved in XFC and exports in other formats (JPG, PNG, GIF, etc...)

Mageia 2 RC has installed and updated just
fine on my low performance platform. This
is basically a CUPS printer server.

Intel Celeron CPU 1.70GHz, 128Kb cache
SiS961/962 SMBus Controller Gigabyte MoBo
SiS7012 PCI Audio
SiS650/651/740 Video
Realtek RTL-8139 eth0 100Mhz
1GB DIMM
Maxtor 6Y160P0 160GB IDE
DVD-R/W

Clunky and slow but KDE runs just fine.
Gnome defaults to fallback mode making it,
IMO, not usable.

Oh, I haven't recognized this before!
Yes, this could have been done better by KDE, using "remove from the menue" or something similar instead of "Uninstall". But though it is confusing, it will not do any damage. Clicking on "Uninstall" only removes the file /usr/share/applications/kde4/name-of-app.desktop and you are asked for the root password. The application (the package) will not be uninstalled, so it does not conflict with the software management.

Don't know why you think this - I use fallback mode by choice. It's hard to tell I'm not still using GNOME 2.

Yes, there was life before gnome-shell.
Gnome 3 without gnome-shell is perfectly ok and sufficient - the gnome-shell is just eye-candy, the real thing is underneath.

I installed the lxde desktop edition from the rc2 cd. It was installed on a sony vaio laptop - about 2g ram, dual processor, intel graphics.

The desktop looks good. Not much software though and could not find a package manager. Needed to urpmi to update. But overall it has a sold feel/look. Will stay on for a while. Its funny using this now as I left mandrake at the 10ce edition.

I now notice this thread is for the rc1 - hope no-one minds this being posted here.

cheers

Instaled/working well on my old "Zombie killer" Itronix Gobook3, Pentium M 1.8GHz, i865 MB chipset, ATI 9250 mobile video (discrete) chipset.
(Zombie killer due to the 4 kilo magnesium case/ metal handle, likely capable of capping any zombie I run across given a good swing ;-) )

Even got the Semtech PS2 touchscreen working properly with evdev after a few days of head scratching.

Sadly xorg no longer seems to support 3D HW accel with the video chipset, unfortunate as the R200 chipsets were amongst the first to have HW 3D accel wth open drivers. Hopefully that regression will be eventually corrected.

I installed using RC1, I THINK it's updating on the Mageia2 sourcelist, it just says "$MIRRORLIST" for all the sources, and /etc/release says "Mageia release 2 (Official) for i586"
