[SOLVED]KDE/Plasma borked my window decorations

Postby Germ » May 31st, '25, 23:10

I filed a bug. Just wondered if anyone else is seeing this.

After the update I can open apps/windows but cannot close, minimize, maximize, or restore up/down. Window decorations are gone. I tried changing them but no help. Logout/Login and Reboot did not help.

Can you add a screenshot? From the description this could be the same effect if the window decorator is not running or crashing, or if the window manager has some issues.
Is kwin running? Or do you use a wayland session?

I'll have to get back to you. Don't have access to the Cauldron machine at the moment.

One other thing I found is the Power Management section of System Settings will not load. Added that to the bug report.

kwin-x11 is not running. Appears to have been removed with only kwayland available now.

Edit:
tried the workaround in the bug report but received several errors on the build.

I do have kwin-wayland installed but can't select it as session at login. Guess I'll wait and see if they come up with a solution.

Found some updates today that solved the problem. urpmi --auto-update did not find them. I checked the repo and then manually installed them.
Code: Select all
sudo urpmi kwin-x11

I guess you are satisfied running X11 now, but if you want wayland, check that you have plasma-workspace-wayland installed.

Thanks morgano! That solves the wayland problem. I had all the assorted kwin wayland packages installed but missed that one. ;)
