No sound with flash videos

Postby wobo » Sep 28th, '11, 11:49

Again.
Latest updates as of today are installed, Cauldron KDE, 64-bit.

- I installed the flashplayer plugin using the rpm (script) from the cauldron repo.
- I read the related Maqueia article.
- li64alsa-plugins-pulseaudio is installed.
- other sound apps work nicely (system sounds, amarok, mplayer)

Videos show but no sound (tested with YouTube, ZDF (German TV site)).

Which browser? Also, which flashplayer plugin did you install?
As recommended by the MAQeia it should be flash-player-plugin11 release candidate?

If you installed the 32bit plugin, did you make sure as in the MAQeia that libalsa-plugins-pulseaudio
is installed from i586 repos?
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

As I wrote:
Maqueia article read, 64-bit, so the answers are clear:
- lib64alsa-plugins-pulseaudio installed.(as I wrote also)
Code: Select all
$ file /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, stripped

about:plugins says:
Code: Select all
File: libflashplayer.so
Version Shockwave Flash 11.0.r1

Browser is the current Firefox of Cauldron (7.0)

Well, can't reproduce here, works fine with Firefox 6.0.2 on Mageia 1.
Maybe you can poke somebody who's more knowledgeable about that issue
AND is running cauldron? *cough* coling *cough*
;)

FF 7 in cauldron. :)
I did not ask Colin yet because sound in general is working (did not try with Skype though).
Will switch to mailinglist mode and ask there.

My experience for what it's worth:

Mageia Cauldron, including Firefox 7, and all latest updates.
Clicked YouTube-movie and received message about missing plugin.
So installed FlashPlayer through MCC:

Code: Select all
The following 4 packages are going to be installed:

- flash-player-plugin11-11.0.1.129-0.rc1.090611.2.mga2.nonfree.i586
- flash-player-plugin11-kde-11.0.1.129-0.rc1.090611.2.mga2.nonfree.i586
- libkutils4-4.7.1-4.mga2.i586
- libvdpau1-0.4.1-2.mga1.i586

15KB of additional disk space will be used.

94KB of packages will be retrieved.

Reloaded earlier called YouTube-movie, and there.....video and sound.

This is in a virtual machine however, VMwarePlayer version: 4.0.0 build-471780.

No problem!
"A system is called 'userfriendly' if you can use it without thinking!" So, do we have a userfriendly system or what? :)
