Netinstall iso cannot proceed to installation

Postby dancaer69 » Jan 6th, '23, 16:38

Hello,
I have try and use mandrake for some time in the past, but this is the first time I tried to install mageia(which is based on mandrake I suppose). I'm using archlinux and I wanted to install from it via chroot but I didn't find any info about it. So I downloaded the netinstall iso, boot to it from grub(I found info in wiki) and started the installation. When I get to the partitioning I choose the manual way and I select and mount the partitions for "/", "/home" and "swap". But at this screen there is no a button or something to proceed. So I stucked there, and when I tried to change ttys to see if there was some error and return back to installation tty, I get a blank screen and I couldn't do anything except reboot.
I have and AMD card and the resolution wasn't the correct. Seems thata the setup screen was 1024x768(or something similar) and probably the area with the "continue" button didn't fit the screen.
So, is there any way to bypass this problem and continue the installation? Or better any way to do a base install from archlinux via chroot?

Seems that the problem caused after I pressed the "advanced" button in partitioning screen. I tried one more time without it and I procced to the next steps but then I get stuck again in downloading packages. The main problem now is that if I change tty I can no more switch to installer tty because I get a blank screen and then I cannot switch to any tty.

There are many ambiguities in your description and it is not really clear what you are doing..

- which ISO are you using? Mageia 8 or Mageia 9 Alpha? 64bit or 32bit? Nonfree?
- why at all do you try to fiddle with chroot to install an OS? There is no chroot needed to install a linux distro (except Arch Linux).
- why "do you get stuck at downloding"? What does that mean? What is the problem or error?

To see if your hardware fits to the distribution you can also try a Live image first.

I'm using the netinstall iso "Mageia-Cauldron-netinstall-nonfree-x86_64".
I already installed mageia, but it took about 2 hours because of those problems which forced me to reboot 3-4 times and start the install from the beginning.
And this is one reason why I prefer to install from a running linux system. Also is faster, no need to wait for installation to finish and I can search for help if there is a problem with installation or read the documentation etc.
