installing cauldron using netinstall

Postby lloyd » Feb 16th, '22, 17:17

I have a testing computer that I want to install cauldron on. So, far, I am not having much luck.
I got two netinstall images (ISOs) from ftp.free.fr. I burned them with K3B. So far, so good.

When I try to install from these disks, I get boxes that require information to be filled in. Well, I'm not sure what to fill in.
The furthest I've ever gotten with the installation always results with this error:

couldn't get file.../mageia/install/stage2/mdkinst.sqfs

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you.

Of course, you must be aware that problems can occur, for example, the system won't boot correctly, the network connection is broken, applications crash and similar, sometimes fatal problems.

At the moment there is a big bunch of python updates blocking cauldron systems.

And "boxes that requires something to be filled in": could you be a "little bit" more precise what the boxes are named or what they are asking for?

Adding to previous post, Netinstall may have problems especially on slow connections because Cauldron is always frequently changing.

To mitigate that, you can do a minimal Mageia 8 install, and then upgrade using urpmi from CLI (use "cauldron" instead of "8" in the urpmi.addmedia command.)
- especially see the Note: use the --test flag and only when it can retrieve all needed packages go a head without that flag.
At home & work Mandriva since 2006, Mageia 2011. Thinkpad T40, T43, T60, T400, T510, Dell M4400, M6300, Acer Aspire 7. Workstation using LVM, LUKS, VirtualBox, BOINC

Usually means that there is something wrong at the mirror you are trying.
Are you using the automatic mirror selection or choosing one manually?

Check Mageia mirror status, and chose a cauldron one local to you with good speed. (https://mirrors.mageia.org/status)
