[SOLVED] Mageia 5 RC auto mount external USB drive

Postby jimtheplanner » May 13th, '15, 20:35

I've marked this as solved.... However; I would share my external hard drive experience with others. I use an external USB Seagate hard drive as backup using Luckybackup. When I installed the Mageia 5 KDE "Live" (64Bit) all went well until I plugged in my backup and got no response!!! - it just would not auto mount - this issue was show stopper for me.

I then downloaded tried the "Classic" install KDE (64) and plugged in backup - and had instant detection with the drive mounted!!!

Not sure what's different or missing from the "Live" version? I did try two independent live downloads and burn with the same result. So now using the classic install all is good and I'm enjoying the "5" experience.

Hard to say what the difference was without any actual logs. If you have similar device recognition problems, I suggest you do the following:

Please do the following after unplugging your device - Open a terminal, and as root run:
Code: Select all
journalctl -af

then wait a few seconds, and plugin the device, and wait again fifteen seconds or so, until no new output appears.
Then post everything here.
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!
