[SOLVED] Need a refresher on syslog and messages

Postby ghmitch » Mar 20th, '13, 21:48

Just attemted to do some troubleshooting and discovered that syslog and messages do not exist any more. I searched the forum and what I found did not make a whole lot of sense to me. Is there some option as far as system logging goes that can reestablish it? Or is there some new system in place to reimplement the capabilities of syslog and messages. I notice there is something new in /var/log/journal. Is that what I am looking for? If so, how do I get useful information out of it?

Thanks,

George

Look at information about journalctl, which is also used if you do systemctl -status someservice.service
