I ruined my installation

Postby Voodoo » Jan 19th, '13, 04:39

It still works but i dont know how i managed to ruin it. Its basically not wanting to update at the moment. The updates are all there but it doesnt preselect them like it usually does.

skypes stopped working with my camera and i feel i need some kind of update but yeah i dont know what the hecks going on. Ive tried doing urpmi--auto-update etc anyway it came up with it wants to down load one gig then it says that its not recommending it or something cos of unsatisfied files.

can someone help me troubleshoot please. 1gb for a update is heaps and its like that every time. I cant afford this huge dl cap anymore. id rather be back on normal mageia but i cant burn a disc or nothing maybe i can make a usb one but i cant afford to even download too much.

You can only reinstall with any of the available Mageia 2 installation media: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Installation_Media
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

It is possible to launch the installer directly from the hard disk if Grub or Lilo are in use:

http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Docs/Instal ... nux_method

That page does not seem to have been imported into Mageia's wiki, so references to Mandriva will have to be read as Mageia. I used that procedure recently to install cauldron and so it does still work.

I'm not sure of the procedure to follow if Grub2 is in use, but I suppose that it is possible.

It can also be done using the Windows boot loader, but I've never tried that and don't know if it can be done with the latest versions of windows:

http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Docs/Instal ... ows_method
