Issues with Cauldron

I just saw Anne's announcement that Beta 1 will be delayed. I don't mind if it takes as long as necessary. You haven't yet got to the stage of creating working installation media.

Cauldron is unstable, as we all know. On the one hand, we are told that we can update from Mga2 to Cauldron, and at the time, Cauldron was quite usable. One of my contacts was thinking of doing just that. But at the moment, with only fairly basic packages:

MCC has disappeared. I enter my root password and nothing happens.
My printer is supported under 2 but not under Cauldron.
My GRUB menu still shows an old kernel version (the one before last) along with the current one, despite an "update" type reinstall
mscore-fonts was an endless loop of upgrades. I have now uninstalled MuseScore itself.

An old post to the mailing list suggested that you don't do anything major on Friday afternoon. He must have thought that you all work Monday to Friday in a Marseilles office block! But the message is still there; don't try to do everything at once. GRUB2 is essential, I think, but I am willing to wait for anything, in the interests of steady progress.

Possibly all your problems may be upgrade hickups, but I suggest you post a bug on your printer to to enhance the probability it works on mga3

Myself:
I am lazy. Server and families two main computers are still running mga1, and my laptop Mandriva 2010.2.
I plan to jump them to fresh install of late mga3 beta when it seem stable enough
-jumping over mga 2 to avoid one extra upgrade/reinstallation procedure, any /usr and grub2 change trouble...
Really using beta i can give feedback on any late issue i hope... or fear
Our internetproxy/fileserver server also run mga1, upgrade later.

My apologies. The failure to start MCC happens only with the Xfce4 desktop. Under KDE it is fine. There seems to be no bug report about it.

A clean reinstall of Alpha3 fixed the issue with GRUB. The printer is still not detected, but I want to get my symptoms correct before filing a bug. (You can see what happens when I rush into print!) Under Mga2, I could simply install the driver RPMs, reboot, and it was all coonfigured for me.

The known bug that the CD-ROM drive is not detected, seems strange, but no doubt a fix will be found. First the solution was, take the line out of fstab, but it is back again in Mga2.

OT: Interesting: I just opened a fresh tab in Firefox to go to Bugzilla. It displayed a patchwork of the last few pages I visited. That is new.

Yup, this is what the other browser are using, too. At least Chrome and Opera AFAIK.
If you want to disable it, via about:config set browser.newtabpage.enabled to false.
