Gnome won't shutdown through GUI

Postby mithion » Aug 29th, '12, 17:27

The title is pretty self explanatory. When I try to shutdown my computer using the top right menu in gnome, it simply logs me out to the user selection screen. If I try to shutdown the computer from the user selection screen, nothing happens. However, using the terminal with shutdown or reboot commands works correctly. Anybody else experiencing this problem? I'm on cauldron with Gnome 3.5.90 I believe.

I don't have the problem with Gnome classic in cauldron, my system is too old to try "real" Gnome 3

I've had to move back to Mageia 2 since I was experiencing too many small issues (including this one). Some research has revealed that the issue is present in other distros and it doesn't seem like there is a solution. But i've seen it suggested it could be a consolekit problem or some database daemon running in the background preventing shutdown from working.
I was also experiencing issues with networmanager while on cauldron where I couldn't edit wireless configuration due to the root dialogue never showing up. I''ve seen discussions about that problem related to consolekit I believe. So maybe the whole permission system in cauldron right now is not working right which is impacting the shutdown issue as well. Unfortunately, I can't comment much more. I'll stick with mageia 2 for now. Thanks for you response though!

gnome 3 was created by ¨smartphone generation¨ ;-)
but pc is not smartphone though.

GUI should be simple, bugs are not live there.

PS: it tricks ¨sudo shutdown -h now¨ icons( with run in terminal option) in XFCE 4.10 menu.
