Latest kernel very unstable

Postby ncarver » May 25th, '11, 22:40

I am having stability problems with latest kernel (2.6.38.7-server-1.mga). Would appreciate input on how to gather useful information.

Was just using chrome browser when suddenly went to console with following messages: (copied by hand)

BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ...
IP: ...
*pdpt = ...
OOPS: 0002 [#1] SMP
last sysfs file /sys/.../shared_cpu_map
...

This is on a Dell Precision M6400 laptop with Nvidia Quadro FX 2700M graphics card. Currently using nouveau driver.

Note that I do not see these problems with 2.6.38.5-server-1.mga kernel.
