Mageia 2 b3 - some comments on some errata topics

Postby acrux » Apr 20th, '12, 11:34

So gave Mageia 2 another try and upgraded my Mageia 1 system to Mageia 2 beta 3 and have been kept it updated regularly. Overall impression is good and the new system seems to run without problems except:

1. KMail2. That was the reason I was still using Mageia 1. Errata says that there could be problems with migration to kmail2 and it is correct. The authomatic migration fails asking to perform it manually using command "kmail-migrator --interactive". However it does not run saying that the migration is already done. Solution to restart the migration is to delete the *migratorrc files in ~/.kde4/share/config/. Then the migration was successfull.
However - kmail2 stays constantly in offline mode although the network connection is present and no other application complains about that. Fortunately the timed automatic mail checks are working and to send messages there is a workaround to right-click on the Outbox folder and select "Send queued messages".
The access to the mail folders could be still very slow - sometimes it takes up to minute to display the folder content.
But probably there are only some rare masochists (like me) using kmail2 and most of kmail users are either still using kmail1 or have been frighten away to some other mail programs

2. Libreoffice-kde. In addition to the errata there is also problem when you are trying to export eg a LibreOffice drawing to a png file with kde file chooser dialogue. In the file type selection dialogue you can't select one file format - all the graphics formats are selected together and of course the export is not possible. Removing libreoffice-kde package makes it to work again using libreoffice native file chooser but that also removed file associations related to libreoffice in kde...

Keep up good work in improving Mageia 2 :)
