Those "startkde" scripts probably should be there. I use "startx" in those circumstances.

Since you are travelling OK with the dual-arch Mageia 1, I will reinstall my DVD as a test bed, and update from there. I don't know how that will affect things like systemd. I still have to get familiar with that. Next-generation GRUB looks even worse!

I don't know where my reply a few minutes ago, went. No, I won't put the DVD back, because switching from a full install to Cauldron didn't work last time. I will start with the dual-arch, as you did.

I made fresh installation Mageia 2 Alpha 3 yesterday evening.
I allow updating during the installation. First start of system was OK.
But after rebooting login was impossible due to black screen. There was not any display manager.

prefectly works as a work-around - OK for alpha and beta, but not beyond.

I just saw this morning:
We are just only one month before the version freeze and two weeks before planned release of Beta 1.

Maybe it would be a good idea to collect a list of bugs perceived by users as "show-stopper candidates" - to avoid them to get accidentally lost, and to have them cleaned up before the last-minute rush

It worked for me too. I can carry on other tests... :)
Thanks for the tip.
Was it mentioned somewhere else ? Did I missed it?
From Mandrake 5 to Mandriva until the end, Linux Mint 17, and now Mageia 5, 6
