CPU use in alpha 1.

Postby pmithrandir » Dec 18th, '11, 18:05

Hello,

I get a high CPU use from KDE and X these days.
My desktop effects seems to be one source of the issue, but flash player too.
It started to get like that since 2 weeks maybe ?

Do you get the same impression ?
Is there any information on that, or discussion ?

It's not a bug report, more an impression on the new release... seems to be slower that mageia 1.

What graphics card, which driver is used? Please show the output of
Code: Select all
lspcidrake | grep VGA
and
Code: Select all
grep -i driver /var/log/Xorg.0.log

You mentioned alpha1 in your original post, how up-to-date is this installation?

Hi,
I'm in cauldron, so except this evening updates, it's up to date to the mandrivauser.be server.
Seems to be a little better with the last KDE.

Here kmix is responsible for the 100% core.
But not always - didn't find out, under which circumstances kmix goes crazy ...
(uptodate cauldron)

cheers,
Bernd

There is an upstram bug in kmix in 4.8 beta that causes 100% cpu usage on one of the cores. And apparently it is still not fixed, so I don't think it will be fixed in next beta that should arrive soon.

There was an update of kmix yesterday, seems to remove the CPU usage of it.

But, X use a lot pof CPU for me. doing nothing, it use 35% of my CPU...

Intel driver or kwin, I don't know.
It seems to stop when I turn of kwin effect ALT MAJ F12.

if I turn them on again, no more problem at the begining, will see if I can find when it's come back.
