[solved] Porting Mint Menu

Postby flebber » Jun 5th, '12, 14:20

The one thing I don't like about KDE is KickOff. So its good Mageia doesn't have it. However I also think that I am left a little wanting by the bare bones menu in Mageia. Mint menu is probably the best alternative launcher I have seen.

I have not worked in KDE or packaging much, would this be hard to bring to Mageia? Interested in seeing what could be done they have implemented in mint menu in KDE so it could be ported largely and just require updating paths etc and a little Mageiarization to give it the Magiea groove?

Small correction: KickOff is just one-right-click away.;)

That's actually a GNOME menu, you can have that when you use GNOME ;)
Also there are quite some launchers, we have classic KDE3-style menu by default, you can easily switch to Kickoff, and there's also Lancelot.

You are right mint menu is gnome only... I thought they had fitted it to all its editions. Shame because to me probably the best thing about mint is MintMenu. Easy to use well thought out.

I have used takeoff http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=144078 as an alternative. It is good, could use with just a little polish.

Well, report that to the authors of takeoff ;)
