New Kernel on mageia 9?

Good morning,

I find it strange that there is no option for me to upgrade my kernel even through the testing and backports repositories. Someone who wants to play their games is it prohibitive, that is, Mageia? The release date of the kernel we have in version 9 is October 30, 2023!!!!! What kind of support will someone with a new graphics card have with Mageia 9? I understand that 6.6 is the 24th LTS release, and 6.12 has also been released, which is also LTS. I'm just mentioning that in my opinion, there should be the ability for anyone who wants to have it to upgrade to a new kernel even through testing, backports repositories. It's a shame as it is the permanent excuse for those who mention that Mageia is not for gaming.

Maybe you should learn and try to understand how kernel patching, backporting and versioning works (in all stable release linux distributions). The kernel in Mageia 9 is a LTS kernel which is supported until December 2026. Security fixes and features get backported (patched) into this kernel by the Mageia maintainer.

If you want to learn how packaging works, you can step up and become a packager.

The 6.12.6 kernel is in backports testing on Cauldron. nVidia driver fails to build with this kernel. Apparently, some DKMS issues need to be sorted out.

But.... it's coming. Once it's been moved to cauldron release, I'm sure it will be moved to MGA9. Just give it time.

I have been enjoying the experience with Mageia for years, without any particular problems, I just made this observation as I hear many complaining and saying that Mageia generally has old packages, and because many have combined the kernel update and the mesa package for gaming, so that they can play with the latest experience, I see that in the mesa package, version 9 is just fine. I understand that all of this requires the necessary people to be involved, which I know is difficult to find.

By the way, I’ve noticed for a long time that the new version has been stuck in backport testing. Is there some issue?

kernel-stable-desktop-6.12.23 is in Mageia 10 /core/release now. Hopefully, it will be backported to MGA9.

YouTube has given up on Mageia 10 and is recommending Release 8. Hopefully, the large number of updates for Mga 9 are a good sign. Marseille isn't the USA.

Who cares about what Youtube recommends? We recommend the current stable version, which is Mageia 9. Mageia 8 is EOL since one and a half year.
