[SOLVED] Submit a quick patch for an old mageia bug

Postby VentGrey » Apr 21st, '22, 07:39

Hello. New in this forum  I've started using Mageia a little while ago and noticed that, there is an old bug where the extra backgrounds are not visible in KDE, this happens in GNOME as well. I fixed it in my local installation doing a simple symlink from /usr/share/mga/backgrounds --> /usr/share/backgrounds

I've read the wiki but I don't quite understand fully the gitweb workflow on how to contribute small bugfixes. My question is, did I miss a wiki page? Is there a special requirement first? Or is there something like "merge requests" in Gitweb like in other Git web UI's?

Thank you for mentioning it. I wondered where all the backgrounds went on my install.

Hi there, if you mean https://gitweb.mageia.org/ by gitweb then that is only for our Mageia-specific software projects and management of our infrastructure and websites.

It does not contain the version control for the actual packages that are installed on your system. Those are contained in our SVN: https://svnweb.mageia.org/packages/
If you want to submit a patch, then the most useful thing would be to create a bugreport, and attach a patch against the SVN checkout of the package which contains the file.
In this case it's mageia-theme: http://svnweb.mageia.org/packages/cauld ... iew=markup
Without being a packager you cannot commit to our SVN, and submitting a patch via a bugreport would be the closest to a pull request as in github.

FWIW there were similar bugreports about this, but those were either closed by the reporter or closed as old due to no replies. Last one: https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16181

Thanks! I'll open a new bug and post a .patch file for the maintainers :D

I also saw the old kernels issue. I don't know much about the MCC architecture, but a GUI for kernel management in Mageia seems like a nice experiment.
